In 2010, 5 American boys were given the name Pollux.
In classical mythology, Pollux was the twin brother of Castor. Together, they are the twins of the Gemini constellation.
As a name, Pollux fits in with Hollywood-chic -x names like Maddox, Bronx, Lennox, and Knox. Its mythological and astrological pedigree could make it attractive to parents who think Apollo and Mars are just too darn mainstream. There were also nine boys named Castor born in 2010 — I wonder how many of them are twin brothers to a Pollux.

Oh, I like Pollux! My initial reaction was that it isn't wearable, but then - Felix, Alex, Paul ... why not Pollox?
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see someone hitting on Pollux as the next great (relatively undiscovered) -x name.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds a little too close to "bollocks" for my taste, but I'm sure there are parents out there with the "bollocks" to pull it off.
